Aragon Middle School Speller Places Fourth in Houston Spelling Bee

Cypress, TX (April 4, 2016) Aragon Middle School seventh-grade student Gabriel Bolanos placed fourth overall out of 53 Greater Houston-area spellers in the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee on April 2.

Bolanos lasted through eight rounds of competition before finally missing a word in the ninth round. The competition ended with two co-champions emerging after 11 rounds of difficult words.

“We are very proud of Gabriel and his success in this year’s regional Spelling Bee,” said Maria Mamaux, Aragon principal. “He was well prepared, did an incredible job and represented Aragon and CFISD well. Way to go Gabriel!”

Truitt Middle School seventh-grade student Asha Lamba advanced to the second round of the competition before bowing out.

“I am so proud of Asha Lamba for representing Truitt Middle School in the Spelling Bee,” said Teresa Baranowski, Truitt principal. “Thanks to Asha for all your hard work preparing to compete!”

Other CFISD spellers included Andre’ Elementary School third-grade student Kwamina Onumah and Kirk Elementary School fifth-grade student Arman Mahmud, who both exited in the second round.
