Cypress Creek High School graduating senior Haley Deakins, a multi-sport athlete for the Cougars,wrapped up her high school career by being named the Greater Houston High School Outstanding Female Scholar Athlete during the Touchdown Club of Houston Spring Sports Scholar-Athlete Dinner on May 22. Deakins will graduate on Saturday, June 8 as the valedictorian at Cypress Creek.

Accomplishments: Ranked No. 1 out of 763 students; Summa Cum Laude graduate; four-year varsity cross country team member; four-year varsity track and field team member; three-year varsity basketball team member; Cypress Creek “Mark of Excellence” award winner; Greater Houston High School Outstanding Female Scholar Athlete 2013; Greater Houston High School Female Basketball Scholar Athlete 2013; UIL scholar; academic all-district basketball team (2011, 2012, 2013); academic all-state basketball team (2013); all-state cross country Team honorable mention (2011); three-time state cross country qualifier, two-time regional track and field qualifier; basketball second team all-district selection (2012, 2013).

Favorite class: Calculus. “Because it challenges me and makes me apply myself.”

Favorite thing to do after class: Go running, play basketball and other sports, and hang out with friends.

Favorite song: “Lover of the Light” by Mumford and Sons.

Favorite website: Pinterest. “It has so many neat things to look at, like recipes and craft ideas.”

Favorite TV show: Pretty Little Liars. “It always leaves you hanging and wanting more. It is full of suspense and never has a dull moment.”

Favorite Movie: The Dark Knight. “It was intense and very thrilling.”

Ambition: “I want to become a biomedical engineer so that I can help design new medical technology that will benefit the lives of others.”

What topics/things are you passionate about? “I am passionate about running, staying healthy, and sports in general. Sports are really important to me because they have taught me many valuable life lessons.”

What inspires you? “I am inspired by the fact that I have been blessed with so much in my life, and I shouldn’t take anything for granted, so I should put myself to good use and push myself every day to become a better person in everything I do.”

What three things can’t you live without? My family and friends, my running shoes and lemonade.
