CFISD gave the second-highest total in the Texas Gulf Coast Region, behind only Houston ISD with $108,080 raised. The district’s efforts were part of $27 million raised by approximately 25,000 U.S. schools for the LLS, which supports research and patient services to those battling blood cancer.

CFISD schools participated in either the Pennies for Patients or Pasta for Pennies competitions, in which the top three fundraising classrooms received a free pasta party courtesy of Olive Garden. The district’s grand total of $83,876.76 shattered the 2014-2015 total of nearly $70,000 raised.

Spillane Middle School was CFISD’s top-raising school, generating $16,175.60. Hamilton Middle School raised an additional $9,641.79, while Frazier Elementary School raised $8,812.40 to bring the campus’s eight-year fund raising total to $28,090.67.

The LLS recognized Frazier during a June 1 ceremony at the school.

“We are excited to be a part of this great cause for yet another year,” said Gloria Vásquez, Frazier principal, whose students exceeded their 2015-2016 goal. “It’s a humbling experience to see our Frazier community members, staff, students and families come together and give in such a generous way. With their help, we were able to raise a record amount for our campus!”
