Cy-Fair, Tx (Oct. 9, 2015)—Men’s choirs at Cypress Falls High School and Labay and Truitt middle schools combined to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” on the Toyota Center court prior to the Houston Rockets preseason basketball game on Oct. 7.
The joint performance of the national anthem prior to the game against the Dallas Mavericks was televised live. Students met some of the NBA players and received souvenirs from Rockets’ staff members.
The Cypress Falls men’s choir is under the direction of Deidre Douglas, Matthew Perez and Jacob Ishee; the Labay men’s choirs are under the direction of Kristen Jackson, Evan Shoemaker and Adam Bishea; and the Truitt men’s choir is under the direction of Cheri Lafferty and Katie Richardson.
“Our students sounded like true men singing the national anthem in front of many of their Rockets and Mavericks idols,” Perez said. “They truly showed not only the teaching of what we do here at Cy Falls, but what we do throughout the district. We couldn’t be more proud of how they performed.”
