“No matter what you’re doing, be the best you can be,” Ogwumike said to the student athletes at Cypress Springs.

Ogwumike started out playing basketball at Cy Fair High School, going on to win two state championships before earning a scholarship to Stanford University after turning down Connecticut and Notre Dame.

“It’s always fun coming home because I remember being in their shoes,” Ogwumike said.

After the brief talk to the girls at the presentation, Ogwumike attempted to inspire the student athletes to try their hardest.

“The speech really was a great inspiration to me,” said student Iliana Lora.
