The Cypress Ranch Key Club has recently enjoyed traveling downtown to Minute Park and volunteering with the Houston Astros and their promotional giveaway program. More than 40 members and 7-8 parent chaperones and faculty advisors helped pass out giveaway items on four separate occasions. Separated into small groups, Key Clubbers were stationed at entrance gates next to massive stacks of Astros merchandise that they gave to the first 10,000 fans in the door. They have handed out Mike Scott bobble heads, jerseys, yoga mats, t-shirts, and commemorative 50th anniversary cups to lucky Astros fans.
The best part of the whole experience was after they were finished with the volunteering, members got to all sit together and watch the baseball game. Students had the chance to bond over nachos, ice-cream, and the singing of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” Key Club member Chase Parisher says “It’s lots of fun and I get to meet new faces everytime. Since I’m a huge Astros fan myself, I can serve and enjoy the quality baseball game atmosphere at the same time!” At the game where they handed out yoga mats, members even got to meet Astros owner Jim Crane. Plus, every game that Cy Ranch has volunteered at the Astros won.
Cy Ranch Key Club has made many wonderful memories and looks forward to volunteering with the Astros again in the future. They have also volunteered with other Houston sports franchises, like the Houston Rockets and Houston Aeros.
