Cypress Ranch High School senior Courtney Anderson clinched the silver medal in the girls’ singles competition of the UIL State Tennis Championships, held April 29-30 at the University of Texas Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Anderson began the competition on Tuesday with a 6-3, 6-4 quarterfinal round win over New Braunfels player Alex Corder. She then defeated Austin Westlake player Fernanda Contreras, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinal round to qualify for the finals.
In the finals, San Antonio Johnson player Chuyang Guan defeated Anderson, 6-0, 6-4, to claim the gold medal.
“Courtney played a great tournament,” said Cypress Ranch head coach Minh Phan. “She had a tough first set in the championship match trying to figure out her opponent, Chuyang. In the second set, Courtney finally broke through and won some games, but Chuyang was a great player and she held on to win the set and the match. I’m very excited that Courtney represented CFISD well and brought home a medal.”
