The Cypress Ranch High School tennis team finished its season as a Region III-6A finalist at the regional tournament in Deer Park on Oct. 31.

The Mustangs fell to top-seeded Memorial, 10-2, in the championship.

“Our goal for this tournament was to play Memorial again after our team lost to them in the area final,” said Minh Phan, Cypress Ranch tennis coach. “The kids gave everything they had, but we just came up short. The performance at regional was outstanding; they stayed focused and positive throughout the tournament despite rain delays and changes in start time.”

Phan said he was proud of the Mustangs for moving past the first round of the regional tournament for the first time in four years.

“We finally broke through this year with not one, but two wins at regional, so I’m extremely proud of this team,” he said. “The senior leadership on this team really showed this year’s accomplishments, and this will help our younger players reach higher goals for next year.”
