The Cypress Ridge High School Air Force JROTC cadets presented the colors and sang the Armed Forces Melody at the annual Veterans Reunion for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8905 (Thompson-Patton-Zahn Post) in Cypress recently as an annual community service event.
The VFW post normally holds its reunion for veterans of the Vietnam War, but beginning in 2012 the reunion welcomes veterans from all U.S. conflicts.
“This is an outstanding event for our cadets to meet those veterans responsible for defending our freedoms,” says Lt. Col. (Ret) Porfirio Munoz, Senior Aerospace Science Instructor at Cypress Ridge. “Not only did cadets get to see a veteran from World War II, they participated in the ceremony with veterans of the former North Vietnam armed forces. ‘There is conflict in our past, but there is also a valuable lesson about reconciliation’—the VFW reunion event promotes this idea.”
