Molina Healthcare and Memorial Hermann Announce Improved Access to Care for Medicaid, Medicare, and Chip Recipients in Greater Houston

Cypress, TX (July 26, 2016) Molina Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE: MOH) and Memorial Hermann Health Plan, Inc. jointly announced today that Molina Healthcare of Texas, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Molina Healthcare, has entered into an agreement with Memorial Hermann to enhance access to safe, high-quality care for Medicaid, Medicare and CHIP recipients in the greater Houston area. At the closing of the transaction, Molina’s approximately 14,000 STAR, CHIP and CHIP Perinate members residing in the Harris Service Delivery Area will become members of Memorial Hermann Health Plan. As part of the transaction, Memorial Hermann will become a contracted provider in Molina’s network serving STAR+PLUS, STAR+PLUS MMP and Medicare D-SNP members. The transaction is expected to close during the second quarter of 2017 subject to the receipt of regulatory approvals and the satisfaction of other closing conditions.

Grays, along with a contingent of Houston Independent School District’s (HISD) instructors, spent a week in the hospital as part of the district’s “Teacher Externship” program.

Cypress, TX (July 12, 2016) Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union (Cy-Fair FCU), a full-service credit union based in southeast Texas, recently announced the 2016 winners of its scholarship program. The program, which is open to all students of the Cy-Fair Independent School District (Cy-Fair ISD), awarded scholarships to seven local students who demonstrate academic excellence with a commitment to pursuing higher education. The students and their families were recently celebrated at a breakfast reception hosted by the credit union.

It’s Official: Berry Center Outdoor Venue to be Named Cy-Fair FCU Stadium

Largest Graduating Class in Cypress Christian School History
Cypress Christian celebrated its nineteenth commencement ceremony with a record number of seniors (60) graduating and moving on to college, careers and military service. Seniors were accepted to 234 different colleges and universities and earned academic, athletic and leadership scholarships from colleges and universities, businesses and organizations. Congratulations to Valedictorian Daniel Overton who plans to attend Baylor University and Salutatorian Dang Pham who plans to attend Cornell University. RRR Speaker to Appear as Hologram Through Promethean Technology

Cypress, TX (June 1, 2016) Cypress Ridge High School senior Tommy Nguyen made it a goal during his final semester to challenge himself with his schoolwork. “Some seniors have ‘senioritis,’ but I wanted to keep doing my work on time and not procrastinate. It is a good habit to develop before going to college.” To prepare for a potential career in the medical field, Nguyen visited Methodist Willowbrook Hospital each week during his junior year to capture the feeling of a hospital environment. A member of the top 10 percent of his graduating class, Nguyen aspires to attain success in order to support his family and give back to those less fortunate.

M. Robinson Elementary School Teacher to Appear on KHOU’s Great Day Houston

Robinson Elementary School teacher Amanda Hedges was in the middle of teaching her first-grade students when all of a sudden KHOU Channel 11 Great Day Houston correspondent Courtney Perna, along with students, staff and family, showed up unannounced to present her with the Star Furniture Red Apple Award—an award that recognizes outstanding educators. Perna surprised Hedges with an on-the-spot interview for a TV segment with Great Day Houston’s Deborah Duncan that will air on June 2.

Cypress Creek Student Wins First Place in Mental Health Arts Contest

Cypress, TX (May 27, 2016) Cypress Creek High School sophomore Kayla Simmons won first place in the Texas State Department of State Health Services (DSHS) 2016 Children’s Mental Health Awareness Creative Arts contest.

The contest challenged elementary, middle and high school students to submit their best work highlighting why “Children’s Mental Health Matters” in either the Creative Writing, Poster Art or Video Art categories. Simmons’ video won first place in the High School division.

Her video will be displayed on both the DSHS and Texas System of Care website, and Simmons received special recognition at the Children’s Mental Health Awareness Walk and Rally kickoff event at the State Capitol on April 30. Simmons also won a selfie stick.

“I am so proud of Kayla,” said Cathy Trocquet, Simmons’ counseling and mental health class teacher. “She is a very dedicated and caring young lady. She really worked hard on the project she submitted and is truly deserving of a first-place award.”

Cypress Creek Staff Hosts Girls in Pearls Conference

Cypress Creek High School’s young ladies celebrated their strength and value during the first annual Girls in Pearls event, May 17-18. The event, sponsored by H-E-B and planned by counselor Courtnie Grigsby, allowed students to visit with vendors during lunches and enjoy a special breakfast.

CFISD’s Farm to School Program Named “One in a Melon”

Cypress, TX (May 26, 2016) The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Food and Nutrition Service recently awarded Cypress-Fairbanks ISD a “One in a Melon” award for administering an exemplary farm to school program. Only one school district in each state was selected for the award by receiving the most public nominations.

Truitt Band Named Grand Champion at Space City Showcase

Cypress, TX (May 24, 2016) The Truitt Middle School Timber Wolf varsity band won Superior ratings from all judges, as well as the Outstanding Overall Band award and coveted Grand Champion award at the Space City Showcase of Music in Galveston on May 21.

Overall solo and section awards were also given out to individuals at the competition:

  • soloists include Emiliano Acosta, trumpet; and Melisa Paniagua, oboe; and
  • the overall section award was given to Truitt’s percussion section—Isaiah Torres, Chase Preto, Marshall Barrows, Danielle Gomez, Joshua Salazar and Avin Sheehan.

Directors Matthew Utter and Melisa Mansueto thanked Truitt’s administration, staff, parents and community for their support.

“I have been so blessed with the most loyal and dedicated students I have ever taught,” Utter said. “Their continued drive to be the best they can be is truly humbling. I am so proud to have the privilege of teaching them every day!”

“Lunch Angel” Continues Support of Program for Students in Need

Cypress, TX (May 24, 2016) A little more than two years after partnering with Cy-Hope and the CFISD food service department to launch the Lunch Super Hero program for district students, Feed the Future Forward founder Kenny Thompson delivered a $2,000 check to Cy-Hope on May 23 to help keep the fund replenished.

Campbell Symphonic Band Wins Top Honors at Alamo Showcase

Cypress, TX (May 23, 2016) The Campbell Middle School symphonic band earned unanimous first division ratings, the Best in Class award and the Grand Champion Best Band award at the Choice Music Festival Alamo Showcase of Music Competition, held May 14 in San Antonio.

The showcase welcomed award-winning bands from across Texas to compete, including top musicians from the Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin and Houston markets.

Campbell students captured nine Outstanding Soloist awards:

  • Aidan Watson, Alex Meeks, Robert Ramirez, Cristian Argueta, Alexis Diaz and Nick Padield – percussion;
  • Alejandro Bonilla, bassoon;
  • Sophia Garcia, oboe; and
  • Pauline Le, clarinet.

The Campbell symphonic band is under the direction of Scott McAdow, Travis Michna and Riaz Mohammed.

“I am genuinely proud of our Campbell symphonic band,” McAdow said. “They have amazed me the entire year with their absolute dedication and hard work!”

Langham Creek Baseball Team Advances to Regional Semifinal

Kahla Band Wins Sweepstakes at Local Music Festival

Cypress, TX (May 23, 2016) The Kahla Middle School beginning band, under the direction of Bernadette Walls and Carlos Cabrera, won three 1st Division ratings for a sweepstakes award at the Pride of Texas Music Festival in Houston on May 18.

The Pride of Texas Music Festival was the seventh competition in a series of competitions for the Kahla band program.

“We are proud of our students’ hard work and dedication throughout the year and this trip was a validation of their efforts,” said Cabrera, who thanked Ana Martin, principal; Elizabeth Bradley, director of instruction; and John Morrison, coordinator of secondary fine arts, for their support.

Jersey Village AFJROTC Unit Earns Community Service Recognition
