Cypress Lakes has not advanced beyond the regional semifinal in the program’s young history.

“At the beginning of the year we talked and we set a goal, to get at least one step further than the year before,” said Emmanuel Olatunbosun, Cypress Lakes head coach. “The schedule we had this year prepared us for this moment, but there’s no better feeling than doing it here in our district in front of a home crowd.”

Tournament tickets will be sold at the Campbell Center gate for $8 apiece.

“The one thing I can’t teach is confidence. I think we’ve gained that,” Olatunbosun said. “We’ve been here three years in a row and have confidence flying all over the place right now. With the support we have from staff to fans to cheerleaders to our families, it’s a stepping stone, and we’re going to try to get the job done this year.”

In other boys’ playoff action, the Cypress Ranch High School Mustangs ended their season with a 67-54 regional quarterfinal loss to Sam Houston on Feb. 29 at the Campbell Center. The Mustangs end the year as District 17-6A co-runners-up and Region III-6A quarter finalists.
