Cypress, TX (March 22, 2016) The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with USA Today High School Sports, announced March 17 that Cypress Lakes High School senior De’Aaron Fox has been named the 2015-2016 Gatorade Texas Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court, distinguishes Fox as Texas’s best high school boys’ basketball player. The first Player of the Year to be chosen from Cypress Lakes, Fox is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year award to be announced in March.

Fox averaged 32.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.6 blocks per game this season, leading the District 17-6A champion Spartans to a 25-8 record and their best-ever finish as Region III-6A finalists. He is a finalist for the Naismith Trophy Boys Basketball Player of the Year, and has been selected to participate in the McDonald’s All American Game and Jordan Brand Classic.

“Texas high school basketball has a lot of talent and is extremely competitive. There are five McDonald’s All Americans including myself in the state,” Fox said. “So, to be recognized as Gatorade Player of the Year in Texas for the season I had at Cy Lakes and my service to the community, is an honor.”

Fox has maintained a B average in the classroom while volunteering locally on a fundraising campaign to benefit breast cancer research. He has also served as an elementary school mentor and motivational speaker.

Opposing coach Chris Draudt of Cypress Woods High School praised Fox for his multitude of talents in a Gatorade press release.

“De’Aaron is as complete a player as I’ve coached against,” Draudt said. “He scored when he needed to in order to help his team win, but he spent a lot of his time working hard to get his teammates involved in every way possible.”

Fox finished his Cypress Lakes career with 3,194 total points. He signed a letter of intent to play for the University of Kentucky Wildcats in 2016-2017.
