The Cypress Ranch High School football team won a come-from-behind thriller, 43-42, over Manvel in the Division 2 Region III-5A semifinal playoff contest recently held at the Berry Center.
The Mustangs won the game after trailing 42-28 with 2:08 remaining in the fourth quarter.
“Our coaches were extremely proud of the effort our boys played with against Manvel,” says Cypress Ranch head coach Gene Johnson. “There were times throughout the game where the outcome seemed to be decidedly against us, but they just kept pushing forward and in the end their efforts were rewarded with a win.”
Cypress Ranch advances to the Region III final, in which the Mustangs will face Katy on Saturday, Dec. 8th at 1 p.m. at Rice Stadium (2136 University Blvd.) on the Rice University campus.
“We are so excited to be in the regional finals and getting to play at Rice Stadium,” Johnson says. “Katy is a program that has an unbelievable track record of success and it will be a tremendous challenge for our boys to line up against them.”
