Cypress, TX News – CFISD Names New Principal for Bane Elementary School

Cypress, TX News (May 11, 2015) – Dr. Carrie Marz, the principal at Willbern Elementary School, has been named the new principal at Bane Elementary School. Dr. Marz replaces Virginia Marez, who will retire in June.

Dr. Marz has served as a public school educator for 32 years. She taught for 19 years as a bilingual/ESL teacher in Houston, Spring and Cypress-Fairbanks school districts—including stints at Owens and Yeager elementary schools—before being named the instructional specialist at Post Elementary School in 2002. She served in that capacity for one year before being appointed to assistant principal at Hancock Elementary School. After three years at Hancock, she opened Andre’ Elementary School as an assistant principal and served a year. Dr. Marz accepted an assistant principal position at Reed Elementary School, a role she held for one year before being named principal at Willbern.

Dr. Marz received her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Kent State University (Ohio) and her Master of Educational Leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University. She earned her Doctor of Education Administration and Human Resource Development from Texas A&M University.

She graduated from the Rice Educational Entrepreneurship Program (REEP), facilitated by Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business, in 2013. Dr. Marz holds Principal, Gifted and Talented, Bilingual, ESL and Early Childhood certifications.

“During my many years in CFISD, I have been blessed to be a part of so many campus families,” Dr. Marz said. “As I say good-bye to my very dear Willbern family, I am looking forward to new challenges as a leader at Bane. My career has moved full circle from my roots as a bilingual teacher to principal of a school with a large, bilingual population. I look forward to starting a new adventure.”
