Cypress, TX News – Construction on the Pinemont Overpass Continues

Cypress, TX News (May 29, 2014) - Construction continues to progress at a quick pace on US 290 as crews work around the clock to reconstruct the Pinemont overpass, demolish the Pinemont t-ramp, and demolish/reconstruct the Barker Cypress Bridge.  Major freeway closures on US 290 are scheduled throughout the month of June and will occur over the next three consecutive weekends, allowing crews to safely work over the freeway.

  • Friday, May 30, 2014, from 9 pm, through Monday, June 2, 2014, at 5 am,the US 290 eastbound mainlanes from Pinemont to W. 43rd Street, will be closed. Motorists will be detoured to the frontage road at the Pinemont exit and reenter at the next ramp.
  • Friday, June 6, 2014, from 9 pm, through Monday, June 9, 2014, at 5 am, US 290 mainlanes from Pinemont to W. 43rd Street, will be closed in both directions, east- and westbound. Motorists will be detoured to the frontage road at the Pinemont exit and reenter at the next ramp.  Due to work on the eastbound frontage road at Pinemont, motorists on the frontage road prior to Pinemont will  have a temporary asphalt detour to turn right on the Pinemont loop and left to continue eastbound.
  • Friday, June 13, 2014 , from 9 pm, through Monday, June 16, 2014, at 5 am, US 290 westbound mainlanes from W. 43rd Street to Pinemont will be closed.  Motorists will be detoured to the frontage road at the W. 43rd Street exit and reenter at the next ramp.
  • Friday, June 13, 2014, from 9 pm, through Monday, June 16, 2014, at 5 am, US 290 mainlanes from Cypress N. Houston to Skinner will be closed in both directions, east- and westbound.  Motorists will be detoured to the frontage road at the Barker Cypress exit and reenter at the next ramp.  Barker Cypress over US 290 will also be closed.  Motorists will be detoured to the frontage road and U-turn at Skinner or Telge.

Motorists should expect major delays and use Hempstead Road as an alternate route. Police officers will be on site at the signalized intersections to assist with traffic control.

TxDOT encourages motorists to use caution while driving through work zones. All scheduled lane closures are subject to change.
