Cypress, TX News – Five Cy-Fair High Schools Qualify for Science Olympiad

Cypress, TX News (April 15, 2015) - Five high school Science Olympiad teams placed among the top three at their respective regional competitions to qualify for the Texas Science Olympiad, April 24-25 at Texas A&M University in College Station.

The Cypress Ranch High School Science Olympiad team won the Gulf Coast Regional at Lone Star College—CyFair on Feb. 28.

“I am very happy for my team because they set winning this competition as a goal and worked hard to achieve it,” said Justin Powers, Cypress Ranch Science Olympiad sponsor. “I am also proud of the seniors and the leadership they showed.”

CFISD’s other first-place regional winner was Langham Creek High School, which placed first in the Katy Regional at Beckendorff Junior High on Feb. 28.

Cypress Woods High School placed second and Cy-Fair High School placed third in the Gulf Coast Regional behind Cypress Ranch to qualify for state. Cypress Falls High School placed third in the San Antonio regional, held at Texas A&M—San Antonio on March 21, to qualify as well.

The following Science Olympiad teams completed their competition seasons in regionals:

  • Jersey Village High School – sixth place, Galveston Regional;
  • Cypress Springs High School – eighth place, Galveston Regional;
  • Cypress Creek High School – 10th place, Lone Star College—University Park Regional; and
  • Cypress Ridge High School – Lone Star College—University Park Regional
