Cypress, TX News – Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital Earns an “A” Patient Safety Score Third Year in a Row

Cypress, TX News (June 11, 2014) - For the third consecutive year, Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital has received an “A” Hospital Safety Score SM from The Leapfrog Group, an employer-based coalition advocating for improved transparency, quality, and safety in hospitals. The A, B, C, D, or F grades are assigned to over 2,500 U.S. hospitals nationwide based on preventable medical errors, injuries, and infections. Only 28 percent of Texas hospitals and 32 percent of hospitals nationwide received an A rating.

The Hospital Safety Score is calculated under the guidance of the nation’s leading patient safety experts and is designed to give the public free information they can use when selecting a hospital for care. The panel utilizes 28 publicly available hospital safety measures compiled from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality in order to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.

“This A rating from the Leapfrog Group reinforces our commitment to provide the highest level of quality, compassionate care and to ensure the safety of all patients who put their trust into the hands of our caregivers every day,” said Beryl Ramsey, chief executive officer at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital and senior vice president of Houston Methodist. “As a Magnet® designated hospital, we have earned distinction for our quality nursing practices, and for raising the standards of care to best meet the needs of the community we serve.”
