Cypress, TX News – Journalism Students Earn Awards at Communications Workshop

Cypress, TX (July 28, 2014) - Approximately 90 students from nine CFISD high schools attended the Balfour High School Communications Workshop, held July 18-21 at Texas A&M University. Several CFISD students earned workshop competition awards.

Featuring top journalism instructors from around the country, the workshop taught students the latest trends and skills in yearbook, newspaper, photography, multimedia, and video editing.

Jersey Village High School Student Press members and a Cypress Springs High School student participated in the Balfour Communications Workshop. The following schools and students earned awards at the workshop:

Cy-Fair High School

  • First place, Newsmagazine category; and
  • two Excellence in Writing awards.

Cypress Creek High School

  • Miranda Duncan – Excellence in Writing: Feature Writing;
  • Jessica Bott – Excellence in Writing: News Writing;
  • Maci Smith – Excellence in Writing: Personal Column;
  • Rosalind Williamson – Excellence in Writing: Editorial Writing; and
  • Caline Forward – Top award for writing: Personal Column.

Cypress Falls High School

  • Sara Smith – Yearbook Excellence award: Editorial Leadership.

Cypress Lakes High School

  • Navina Moya – Third place, photography competition (images of two or more people).

Jersey Village High School

  • Falcon yearbook staff – Marketing Excellence award.
