Cypress, TX News – Lamkin Elementary Creates 75th Anniversary Tribute

Cypress, TX News (April 9, 2015)More than 1,000 students and staff at Lamkin Elementary School made a tribute to the 75th Anniversary school year of Cypress-Fairbanks ISD by forming a large “75th” on the school playground on April 8. Principal Gale Parker replicated a similar idea from 2005, when Lamkin formed a giant “50” to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary. The event was documented by Fox 26’s helicopter.

“We wanted to contribute to the 75th Anniversary somehow,” Parker said. “We thought, ‘Hey, it’s 75 years, let’s make a 75.’”

Lamkin music teacher Ben Proko roped off the “75” shape, organizing second- and fifth-grade students on the “7” and kindergarten, first-, third- and fourth-grade students on the “5.”

“The kids are all very excited. They think they’re all going to be movie stars,” Parker said. “We wanted them to do this because they are what Cy-Fair is. Our philosophy on the elementary level is that we’re growing people, and we want them to invest in the community and be a part of it.”
