Cypress, TX News – Principals Selected to Attend Harvard Leadership Institutes

Cypress, TX News (May 16, 2014) - Raise Your Hand Texas (RYHT), a nonprofit advocacy organization working to support and strengthen public education, is sponsoring 16 principals from nine Houston-area school districts, including three from Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, to participate in a summer program at The Principals’ Center at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. More than 80 principals were selected from across the state, out of almost 200 who applied.

The CFISD principals selected are Tricia Reilly, Farney Elementary School; Kelly Dalton, Danish Elementary School; and Cheryl Fisher, Keith Elementary School.

RYHT has sponsored approximately 700 principals to attend Harvard in the seven years of the program. RYHT covers all expenses for those selected, including program fees, travel, hotel, and other discretionary funding – about $6,000 per attendee, for a total of almost $500,000 in sponsorships for 2014, and $4.2 million since the program’s inception.

“Quality education begins with effective leadership, and Raise Your Hand Texas is promoting this model by selecting three CFISD principals to attend the Harvard Leadership Institutes,” said Dr. Mark Henry, superintendent of schools. “Tricia, Kelly, and Cheryl are already excellent leaders, but this valuable experience at one of the world’s top universities will further hone their talents—making the Farney, Danish and Keith communities even stronger.”

Applicants can choose from one of three learning tracks: Enhancing Teacher Effectiveness; Improving Schools: The Art of Leadership; and Leadership: An Evolving Vision.
