Cypress Woods, Cy-Fair Girls Complete Season in Golf Regionals

Cypress Woods High School placed eighth and Cy-Fair High School placed ninth at the Region III-5A Golf Tournament, held April 15-16 at Eagle Pointe Golf Club in Mont Belvieu.

The Cypress Woods girls’ team shot a two-round score of 744 (371-373), while Cy-Fair scored a 754 (368-386) as CFISD’s two team representatives.

Cypress Woods completed its season with a seventh consecutive trip to the regional tournament since the school opened in 2006.

“This has been a wonderful season,” said Cypress Woods head coach Ashley Ahlfinger. “The girls worked really hard and exceeded all expectations. I am very proud of them.”

Cy-Fair, a young team consisting of all freshman and sophomores, had a successful season and has a bright future in store, according to head coach Donna Benotti.

“The team was placed under great pressure, playing alongside the top players in the region,” Benotti said. “That experience will prepare us for the future.”

CFISD had eight individual golfers place in the top 50 in the region:

  • Cypress Woods senior Leanne Haynes (86-85 – 171) placed 24th;
  • Cypress Woods senior Arabella Cruz (91-84 – 175) placed 30th;
  • Cy-Fair freshman Laura Palmer (92-88 – 180)and Cypress Ranch senior Alexis Fichtel (93-87 – 180) tied for 38th;
  • Cypress Creek senior Emily Moore (97-90 – 187) placed 43rd;
  • Cy-Fair sophomore Courtney Johnson (89-100 – 189) tied for 44th;
  • Cy-Fair freshman Sara Carlat (91-99 – 190) placed 47th; and
  • Cy-Fair sophomore Nicole Brinkley (96-99 – 195) placed 50th.
