Four CFISD Teams Qualify for Destination ImagiNation Global Finals

Four CFISD teams won first place at the Destination ImagiNation (DI) State Tournament April 13 at Cinco Ranch High School in Katy to qualify for the DI Global Finals, scheduled for May 22-25 in Knoxville, Tenn.

Twelve teams representing CFISD schools competed among the 476 teams in attendance at the statewide event. The following teams will represent CFISD at the DI Global Finals:

Elementary Division

  • The Brainiac Builders from A. Robison Elementary School won first place in the Twist-O-Rama event. The team members are Michael Norman, Colton Sessions, Alex Hamilton, Thomas Stigall, Ethan Duong and Avery Haynes. The team manager is Nancy Norman.

Middle School Division

  • Sigma Seven from Hamilton Middle School won first place in the Wind Visible event. The team members are Abhinav Ashar, Priya Nair, Alan Qu, Miller Atkinson, Anirudh Nair, Sophia Tang and Harry Wang. The team manager is Jagruti Ashar; and
  • The Fast and the Curious from Spillane Middle School won first place in the Twist-O-Rama event. The team members are Rachel Goodwin, Peyton Wood, Katherine Zhang, Henry Thurman, Fernando Mercado and Sebastian Aguirre. The team manager is Angela Goodwin.

High School Division

  • The Self-Proclaimed Professional Thinkers from Cypress Ranch High School won first place in the In the Zone event. The team members are Kali Grau, Kenny Grau, Catherine Goodin, Grace Peveiva, Mathew Semrick and Rebecca Semrick. The team manager is Janet Grau.

The DI Global Finals is the largest creative thinking and problem-solving competition in the world. This year, more than 100,000 students have competed in tournaments throughout the United States and in 30 countries to earn a spot at the finals. Last year, more than 16,000 attendees from 45 states and 14 countries gathered in Knoxville.
