Female golfers at Cy-Fair, Cypress Woods and Cypress Ranch high schools swept first, second and third places in the Sweetwater Invitational, held recently at the Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land.
Cy-Fair and Cypress Woods initially tied with a score of 393, but Cy-Fair won the tiebreaker based on the fifth golfer’s score. Cypress Ranch placed third with a score of 409. Other Cy-Fair ISD competitors in the 17-team tournament included Cypress Creek (tie-fifth, 425) and Jersey Village (11th, 457).
Cypress Woods senior Arabella Cruz was the district’s top representative, shooting a two-round total of 86 to earn a second-place ranking. Cypress Ranch senior Alexis Fichtel and sophomore Charlee Buhr, Cy-Fair freshman Esha Dewan and Cypress Creek senior Emily Moore tied for fourth place with a 93.
Cy-Fair ISD’s other top-20 golfers were Cy-Fair freshman Sarah Carlat (tie-eighth, 96), Cy-Fair freshman Laura Palmer (13th, 98), Cypress Woods senior Leanne Haynes (14th, 100), Cypress Woods junior Carly Stephenson (17th, 102) and Cypress Creek senior Hanna Herzog and Cypress Woods freshman Kaley Martin (tie-20th, 105).
“It is really special to be in a district in which the coaches and players can support each other,” says Cypress Woods head golf coach Ashley Ahlfinger. “It was fun to have multiple district teams riding on the same bus to Sweetwater, which has become a tradition for us. But this was the first time we have all ridden together and swept the tournament. It was a great day to spend with our competitors who I’m honored to call my friends.”
