Sigma Seven, a team of seven 8th graders from Hamilton Middle School, won first place in the State Destination ImagiNation Tournament held on April 12-13 at Cinco Ranch High School, Katy. The team competed in the challenge “Wind Visible.”
For this challenge, they created kinetic art that uses wind energy to produce motion. The team came up with very creative and innovative designs. They created and presented an original story that incorporated both kinetic art and research into wind energy. They placed first in the Regionals Tournament and won the Renaissance Award for Outstanding Design, Engineering or Performance.
The seven team members are Abhinav Ashar, Priya Nair, Alan Qu, Miller Atkinson, Anirudh Nair, Sophia Tang, and Harry Wang. The team manager is Jagruti Ashar.
The final Global Tournament will be held at the University of Tennessee on May 20 through 25th. It will involve more than 1,200 teams from 45 states, seven Canadian provinces, and 11 other countries.
Destination ImagiNation is an international educational program in which student teams solve open-ended challenges and present their solutions at competitive tournaments. Challenges require the team to apply their skills associated with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).
