Hamilton students meet former pitcher at education fundraiser

Hamilton Middle School students attended the Education Foundation of Harris County fundraiser event on Tuesday at the Hilton Americas featuring keynote speaker, former Houston Astros pitcher Roger Clemens.

Nine students demonstrated their robotic and programming skills to donors and talked about the importance of having opportunities like the EcoBot program available to them.

EcoBots is an innovative workforce development competition for Harris County students in grade 5-8 in which students develop talents using software, complex computer technology, physics and mathematics. Teams build, program and operate autonomous robots to solve four tasks, applying school-day learning to solve real-world challenges linked to the future of the environment, commerce, and our regional energy industry.

The students also had the opportunity to have lunch with Clemens and hear his keynote address following their robotics demonstration.

“Our students were excited that someone so prominent in athletics cared about what they are doing in school,” says Mary Patterson, Hamilton campus content instructional strategist.
