The Langham Creek and Jersey Village high school symphonic bands were the two bands selected to represent Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Region 27 in the honor band competition at the area level.
Recordings from the spring semester performances are judged at the region, area and state levels. Two bands are selected at the region level to advance to area, and Langham Creek and Jersey Village will compete with schools from the San Antonio area for advancement to state.
“I am very proud of what our students have accomplished this year,” says Jersey Village band director Denis Kidwell. “Our band staff has worked very hard to continue raising the bar of performance expectations, and the students have developed a very mature and disciplined foundation of performance fundamentals. I am excited for them to receive this recognition.”
Langham Creek band director Gloria Ramirez also expressed her pride in her band’s achievement.
“Individual music achievement and development are the cornerstones upon which the success of the Langham Creek band program is built. Emphasis in each band class is on the total musical development of the individual and the ensemble through an instructional program that focuses on tonal, technical, rhythmic, sight-reading and ear- training skills,” Ramirez says. “A well-established tradition of student leadership promotes active involvement and gives inspiration to develop strong, lifelong friendships; and the support we receive from our Langham Creek parents and administrative staff has been a huge factor in helping us reach our goals.”
