It is the best time of the year to be a Texan. Thousands of country music fans, animal-loving youngsters, and boot-wearing families will head to Houston’s NRG Arena for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Fan favorites like mutton bustin’, bull riding, livestock shows featuring everything from cattle to llamas, and a star-lled concert lineup are part of what makes rodeo season a celebration.

Country Carnival Fun
A Cy-family favorite is the carnival with 43 games and over 70 ride attractions including the largest portable Ferris wheel in the western hemisphere, and a 1700-foot gondola skyride. Rodeo Athletes
Spectators travel from all over the country to see some of the nest rodeo athletes compete in numerous events including barrel racing, bull riding, tie-down roping, saddle bronc riding, chuck wagon races, calf scrambles, and more.

Amazing AGventrue
Fascinating and educational, AGventure has a dozen livestock exhibits including a live birthing center with newborn calves, lambs, and piglets. Children and adults are enthralled watching newly arrived baby animals take their rst steps or witnessing first-hand how babies and their mothers interact. AGventure also has a petting zoo, pony rides, and the We’re Small Y’all Barn housing some of the tiniest, but full grown cattle, pigs, and goats you’ve ever seen.

Food and Shopping
Loosen that belt buckle because the food is amazing. With more than 30 food stations, adventurous eaters can try alligator on a stick, pulled pork sundaes, deep fried cheesecake, Oreos, or Twinkies, or enjoy traditional favorites like hot dogs, barbecue, funnel cakes, or over-sized turkey legs. Fans can also enjoy the dozens of vendors at the NRG Center and shop western wear, arts and crafts, or agriculture machinery.

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is committed to supporting area educational organizations as well as student scholarships. “e Show is honored to be a foundation from which young Texans can proudly step into their future,” says Joel Cowley, president of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. “To fund education for 80-plus years is an achievement built on the hard work of 31,000 volunteers and the unwavering support of our community.” In 2015, the Houston Rodeo’s total educational commitment was $24,176,500 with Brookwood Community being one of the programs receiving funding. “rough grants, the Show supports organizations that create educational opportunities outside of the typical classroom setting,” says Cowley.
