Matzke Elementary School kindergarten student Bronson Forsidewon first place in the Elementary – Primary division of the Texas School Counselors’ Association (TSCA) Human Rights Art Contest, announced in May.
Forside received $250 for winning the statewide K-12 contest, which had the theme “Be the Change You Want to See in Others.” Forside’s drawing spoke out against bullying among children.
Matzke counselors Heidi Rothschild and Mary Dumlao and art teacher Judy Wagner publicized the contest at the school.
Rothschild said she was proud of Forside, who created his winning entry independently and not as part of a class project.
“We are very proud of Bronson,” Rothschild said. “As a No Place For Hate school for the last six years, Matzke strives to be a place where everyone is treated with understanding and respect. We are so impressed that Bronson used his talent to create an award-winning piece of art that demonstrates his understanding of our Matzke message.”
