Local OfficeMax stores recently surprised three Cy-Fair ISD teachers with $1,000 worth of free classroom supplies in “A Day Made Better,” a joint effort with Adopt-A-Classroom.
Among the honorees were Metcalf Elementary School teacher Tressia Thompson, Bane Elementary School teacher Christie Arce, and Tipps Elementary School teacher Lizbeth Valdez. The goal of OfficeMax’s “A Day Made Better” program is to work to erase teacher-funded classrooms.
Tipps principal Pam Redd desribes the event as more emotional than she expected. “Lizbeth was named the Cy-Fair ISD Bilingual teacher of the year last year—a well deserved recognition for someone who is completely dedicated to her students,” Redd says. “She is a consistent reminder of what one dedicated professional can do to pull out the best in our students.”
“I didn’t think she would cry, because she’s not overly emotional, and I also never expected to get emotional. But when she spoke from her heart about how she felt about her students and working here, even her students started to cry,” Redd adds.
