Spartan Basketball Program Rakes in Accolades

Cypress, TX (February 6, 2016) The Cypress Lakes High School boys’ basketball program has stayed in the spotlight throughout the 2015-2016 school year, earning plenty of media attention from local and national outlets.

The Spartans, coming off a co-district title and regional tournament appearance in 2015, currently share a 9-1 first-place tie for District 17-6A with three games left in the 2016 season.

The frenzy picked up before their season even began, when senior guard De’Aaron Fox signed a letter  of intent to play college basketball at the University of Kentucky. As part of a talent-laden Wildcats’ recruiting class, Fox earned the nickname “The General” from UK Coach John Calipari, prompting a popular video trailer by the site CourtCred. (Watch the video)

“It’s an honor for me to coach a special group of guys and work with great coaches that have already made my first year as head coach a memorable one,” said Emmanuel Olatunbosun, Spartans coach. “All the recent honors, awards and media attention have been prominent for the program and our community. The team has worked hard all season and bought into the process which has made me proud.”

The Spartans defeated Cypress Woods, 83-63, on Feb. 5 in a game that featured 50 points from Fox. Their next game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Feb. 9 at Cypress Falls High School. The Golden Eagles share the tie for first in 17-6A with the Spartans and Cypress Ranch High School.
