Tennis Teams Finish Seasons in Regionals

The Cypress Ranch and Langham Creek high school tennis teams recently wrapped up successful fall seasons at the UIL Region III Tennis Championships in Katy.

The District 17-5A champion, Cypress Ranch (11-3 overall, 9-0 in district) entered the regional tournament as a No. 5 seed and defeated Pearland in the first round, 18-1. The Mustangs advanced to the regional quarterfinal round and fell short against Clear Lake, 10-6.

Cypress Ranch’s team members are Courtney Anderson, Jasi Witherspoon, Savannah Smith, Teja Birudala, Tariq Zahroof, Tyler Roberts and Christian Borrero.

“Given the tough district schedule and a new coach for the program, this team exceed my expectations,” says Cypress Ranch head coach Minh Phan. “The students were just excited and bought in and worked really hard at practices. This led to winning matches and a belief that they could make a run at district—and they did, finishing undefeated.”

Langham Creek was the district runner-up. The Lobos faced No. 3 seed Fort Bend Clements in the first round of the Region III tournament and lost, 10-3.
