Sampson Elementary School music specialist Adrienne Applewhite had a special visitor in her classroom, when Houston Texans fullback James Casey dropped by to honor her as one of the First Community Credit Union Stars in the Classroom.
The Stars in the Classroom program celebrates teachers in the greater Houston area who have made an impact on their students. One of Applewhite’s music students, third-grade student Zachary Portzline, nominated her through the Texans website.
Along with the classroom visit from Casey, Applewhite received an autographed James Casey jersey and two tickets to a Texans home game, while Sampson received a $500 donation in honor of Applewhite. Portzline won an autographed Houston Texans football for making his nomination.
“I think it is wonderful that football players like James Casey are so supportive of education and the future of our children – who admire these men and look up to them as role models and idols,” Applewhite says. “I am so grateful and overjoyed that I am being recognized for this special honor.”
