UIL Realignment Keeps CFISD Schools in District 17-6A

Cypress, TX (February 1, 2016) All 10 CFISD high schools’ football and basketball programs will remain in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 17-6A, the UIL announced on realignment day Feb. 1.

The biannual realignment released by the UIL at 9 a.m. again featured Cy-Fair, Cypress Creek, Cypress Falls, Cypress Lakes, Cypress Ranch, Cypress Ridge, Cypress Springs, Cypress Woods, Jersey Village, and Langham Creek high schools as the 10 representatives in District 17-6A.

This will be CFISD’s fourth consecutive realignment to be a part of District 17, beginning with District 17-5A in 2010 and 2012 and moving up to District 17-6A in 2014.

The district remains in Region III with all Houston-area representatives. CFISD’s bi-district playoff opponents will be different from prior realignments, as the new District 18-6A will feature Houston ISD schools Bellaire, Chavez, Lamar, Sam Houston Math Science and Technology Center, Reagan, Westbury and Westside.

“We are pleased to be back in Region III with other Houston-area schools,” said Ed Warken, CFISD director of athletics. “We will face HISD schools in the first round of the playoffs, and the second round will look a little bit different with Katy and Fort Bend ISD in Districts 19 and 20. It will bring a little different mix, but we certainly look forward to staying on the west side of town geographically.”

Cypress Park High School, which will open in August 2016, will not compete in varsity athletics for its first two seasons and will join the next UIL realignment in 2018.
